Brief
In spring 2021 we were delighted to be awarded the contract to assist with the launch of the new Challenger 3 Tank for RBSL UK, which was to take place on the secure factory floor of their UK Factory in Telford.
Given that some Covid restrictions were still in place at this time, the event was to be attended by an audience of 60 people in person, who had to be socially distanced, with 300 additional guests joining virtually.
The event also needed to include a virtual press conference afterwards for Secretary of State for Defence would attend to mark the occasion.
Solution
This project is a great example of the power of a hybrid event, with speakers at the event including the Rt Hon Ben Wallace, Lt Gen Chris Tickell, and Marco Noeding , managing director of RBSL.
Using the Challenger 3 as the stage backdrop we installed subtle LED lighting to enhance and highlight the vehicle, and a stage area which needed to not detract from the subject, and included a PA system and screens for the live audience to view content.
Our 3 camera production system and PPU rack was installed, with our director calling the shots that would go out to the virtual guests via the live stream. To enable the live stream to happen securely and reliably we installed a bonded 4G network to achieve suitable internet connectivity for the video uplink.
Our qVirtual Studio managed all feeds to mix the cameras and content for the online audience, with lower 3rd titles and graphic logo stingers used throughout. The livestream itself was viewed on a simple, secure, branded website created specifically for the launch.
Post event we managed a Zoom call to create a “daily briefing” style Q&A session with the press which was extremely effective.
